1. 🇵🇹 The Ambassador.
What an honour to have the Ambassador of Portugal in Spain presenting my collection and speaking about my work.

2. ✨ Don Juan Abelló.
An internationally renowned curator, presenting my collection, and part of this year’s Venice Biennale.
Honestly… I’m over the moon.

3. 👥 An incredible gallery. And so many people.
The gallery was filled throughout the evening, and at one point someone told me there were people outside who couldn’t get in because there were simply too many people. I still can’t quite believe it.

4. 🌍 The encounters.
Curators, artists, press and people whose work I deeply admire.

5. ❤️🎨 My family — and the paintings finding new homes.
The people who were there long before there was a story to tell. And, somehow, the paintings also began their journeys into new homes. An extraordinary first night in terms of sales.

I came to Madrid hoping to share my paintings.
I left feeling that something much bigger had happened.

I am incredibly grateful. And, honestly, a little overwhelmed.

I have never felt so welcomed far from home.

JOAN ABELLÓ — CURATOR

Historian, curator and independent art critic, Joan Abelló is a European Doctor in Humanities and a leading figure in Barcelona’s contemporary art scene.
In 2026, he is the Curator at the 61st Venice Biennale.
He has also served as Director of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona.

His Excellency José Augusto Duarte is the Ambassador of Portugal to Spain, representing Portugal at the highest diplomatic level in Madrid.
