This traditional costume honors Mazu, originally named Lin Mo.
Out of deep reverence, I travelled to her temple in person and performed the traditional jiaobei, or moon‑block divination ritual, to seek her consent. Only after receiving her affirmative sign did I feel blessed to present this costume on stage.

She was born on Meizhou Island, Putian, Fujian, in 960 AD, Northern Song Dynasty. At the young age of 28, she lost her life in 987 AD while rescuing ships in distress at sea.

Skilled in reading tides and weather, she often warned fishermen of coming storms, sailed out to save people, and gave free herbal care to islanders. Legend says she once lit her own home as a beacon, to guide lost vessels safely ashore. Grateful villagers built shrines and called her “Mazu”.

Honored by emperors through centuries, her culture travelled along the Maritime Silk Road.
Her spirit — virtue, kindness and universal love — is now a cherished cultural symbol and spiritual bond for Chinese communities all over the world.

Introducing the 2026 Earthshot Prize Finalists to Clean our Air, who are creating jobs in green energy, removing pollution from the air, and creating solutions to heat our homes, travel to work and feed our families, without polluting the air that we breathe.

AirQo builds affordable air-pollution monitors for African cities that must contend with dust, unreliable power and patchy internet.

It knows that without data, air pollution can be impossible to track, and therefore impossible to prevent.

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility is putting one of the world’s largest sources of on-road air pollution on the path to electric, in the world’s most populous country.

With more than 400,000 of its electric vehicles sold, Mahindra is making the economics work for the owner-driver, creating one of the most rapid and consequential green transitions the planet has ever seen.

Satellites on Fire uses weather forecasts, cameras and satellite technology to protect 92 million hectares across 21 countries.

Founded by entrepreneurs who were just 16 years old when they started, it can detect fires faster than NASA. In a wildfire every minute matters, and Satellites on Fire alerts firefighters while fires can still be contained.
