Bismillahi Ta‘ala
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un.
With deep sadness, I remember Marhum Mustafabhai Fazal Karmali, originally from Lindi, who was my Madressa teacher in
Dar es Salaam during the 1960s.
His gentle manner, dignified demeanour and pious character left a lasting impression on me. When I went to the United Kingdom for further studies in 1970, his teachings helped me remain steadfast in my faith and religious upbringing.
He taught me the daily duas, and even today, whenever I recite them, I remember him with heartfelt gratitude. A beautiful legacy to be remembered through the prayers he taught.
Mustafabhai was also deeply committed to preserving the Gujarati language within our community. He would send me interesting Gujarati cuttings from various magazines, encouraging me to keep connected to our language and heritage.
I vividly remember a letter he sent me while I was serving as Secretary of the Dar es Salaam Jamaat, urging us to keep Gujarati alive in our community. The office bearers also met with him and Al-Haj Gulamabbas Fazal, who both emphasised the importance of preserving Gujrati language on to future generations.
He taught so many of us in Madressa, and countless students benefited from his knowledge, sincerity and guidance. His influence lives on in the prayers we recite, the values we uphold and the faith we pass on to our children.
A respected teacher and a cherished elder has returned to his Lord, leaving behind a legacy of faith, learning and service.
May Allah (SWT) grant him maghfirat, elevate his station in Jannatul Firdaus, and bless him with the company of Ahlul Bayt (AS). May He grant his family patience and comfort.
Ameen.
