“Thirty years ago at the Oscars, I wore a Chanel Couture dress… This isn’t the exact same dress, but it’s a new interpretation of that original look I wore on the red carpet. Wearing this version now, brings me right back.” - Céline Dion An iconic 1997 Karl Lagerfeld red carpet look, reimagined for a new era by Matthieu Blazy.  An iconic full circle moment. Looking for an English-speaking hairstylist in Taipei? After 2.5 years here, trying 4+ stylists and spending hundreds of dollars 😭, I finally found a blonde highlight specialist! @alchemic_coiffeur gave me the EXACT style I asked for 🙌🏻 PS: This isn’t sponsored. I’m just sharing my experience to hopefully help someone else looking for this service ❤️ Here’s what I learned from all my trial & error that I think is important to know if you’re coming to Taipei for balayage or blonde highlights. 1. The lightener matters. Some Asian-brand lighteners are formulated with coarser Asian hair textures in mind, so it’s worth asking what products your stylist uses, especially if your hair is already compromised from frequent bleaching. 2. Ask about toner vs. color. In my experience, some salons used demi-permanent color on my non-bleached hair to better match the tone of my highlights, rather than the toner-only approach I was used to. This always left my hair much darker than I wanted and took longer to fade back to the lighter look I was after. 3. Highlighting techniques can be very different. Even when I explained that I wanted a root touch-up, stylists would bleach & color my entire head instead of just my new growth. After 5 years of being blonde, I was used to my US stylist applying bleach only to my roots and avoiding previously lightened hair. The difference in technique contributed to A LOT of breakage for me, and I experienced this repeatedly until now. 4. Highlights can cost as much as in the US. I’ve seen quotes as high as NT$14,000 (about US$430), sometimes without a haircut. One thing you’ll save on is tipping, since it isn’t customary in Taiwan. I think if you have strong, healthy, thick hair and want gray blending or balayage, a local Taipei stylist may work great for you. But if you’re used to Western highlighting techniques and your hair is already compromised, do your research before booking because the wrong approach can cause serious breakage. Trust me, I learned that the hard way 😭 PS I can’t speak for every stylist. This is just my personal experience.❤️ (Reel inspired by @happy_baes ) #taipeibalayage

Taking advantage of the chilly weather (after having a great breakfast) and heading from the beach to the mountains of Espírito Santo, in Domingos Martins —a region, where excellent types of coffee are grown.🏔☕️ I also stopped at an orchid garden and was absolutely amazed by the beauty of the orchids.🌸🪴🏵🌺💐💕 #flowers #coffee #mountains #style #instacool
Scrolling through Instagram during the Covid lockdown, Christine Dawood saw something that made her do a double take. She passed her phone to her husband Shahzada – not out of genuine interest, she says, but in a spirit of astonishment. He was captivated. "He said, 'Find out if it's real,' and I was like, 'This is definitely fake.' But he said, 'No, find out,' so I asked our travel agent. And then they came back to us and said, 'Yeah, it's possible.' And I'm like, 'Really?'" That fateful day scrolling was a turning point of monumental proportions for Dawood. The Instagram reel that she had assumed was computer-generated was in fact genuine footage of the Titan, a submersible that had been constructed to dive to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, taking tourists to the wreck of the Titanic. Everyone knows how the story ends. On June 18, 2023, the Titan imploded off the Titanic's bow, instantly killing all five on board. Shahzada Dawood was one of them. Their 19-year-old son, Suleman, was at his side. In her memoir, Christine draws from her journal and transcripts of what unfolded after the Titan went missing. She says she recorded everything to report back to relatives on the ground. The result is a slow-burn horror story.
