“Paper in My Shoe” celebrated Black women’s longstanding contributions to folk, Zydeco, and instrument driven music, honoring the enduring relationship between language, lyricism, and the art of telling our own stories.

From the wit of Jackson’s “Dickhead Blues” to the audacious sensuality of Ledet’s “You Can Eat My Poussiere,” the evening explored the explicit power of black women’s voices to articulate the complexities of desire, identity, and lived experience.
