The NHL season is almost here, which means it’s time to put our award predictions on the record.
We asked four members of the Hockey Trend team to make their picks for eight of the NHL’s biggest individual awards, and there were definitely a few names that kept showing up.
Macklin Celebrini was one of the biggest. Three of our four lists have him winning the Hart Trophy, while Michael went even further and has him taking home the Art Ross AND Ted Lindsay as well.
Connor McDavid was another popular choice, appearing as a Hart, Art Ross, Rocket Richard and Ted Lindsay pick across the four lists. Cale Makar might have been our safest prediction of the entire post, with three of four picking him to win another Norris Trophy.
But some of the most interesting picks came where we completely disagreed.
The Calder had four different winners with Gavin McKenna, Ivar Stenberg, Porter Martone and Ilya Protas all getting a vote. The Vezina was just as divided, with Igor Shesterkin, Sergei Bobrovsky, Logan Thompson and Jacob Markstrom each being picked once.
And then there are the bold predictions. Jason Robertson winning the Rocket. Jack Eichel taking home the Selke. Lane Hutson beating out Makar for the Norris. Nick Suzuki and Nico Hischier winning the Selke. Celebrini potentially walking away with THREE major awards.
Some of these will probably look pretty smart by the end of the season and others might age terribly.
That’s what makes preseason predictions fun.
These are our picks for the biggest NHL awards this season.
Which list do you think will age the BEST? And what award prediction do you disagree with the most?
