The works on view belong to the series Fold-line from the Surface of the World, in which the fold impressed upon plastic material by history becomes the starting point for a seam that joins its different layers. Machine stitching grows increasingly dense until it becomes a field in its own right, echoing the sound and rhythm of the machine itself. The process recalls the chipping of stone by the makers of prehistoric rock engravings, which the artist studied extensively while working as an archaeologist in the Karoo Desert.
DAVIDE MANCINI ZANCHI (Urbino, 1986)
His participation in the 2026 Premio Cairo follows his recent solo exhibition at Casa Menotti in Spoleto. Through his series Cose Piccole (Small Things), the artist has been exploring a return to painting over the past two years, revisiting its traditional layering, translucent glazes and metaphysical dimension.
STEFANO RIBOLI (Crema, 1998)
Contemplative yet virtual landscapes, derived from the video game Fortnite and recently presented in his solo exhibition, are now joined by new bas-reliefs depicting mythical battles. The protagonists of these scenes are drawn from the contemporary world, giving rise to entirely new narratives.
ANDREA MIRABELLI (Milan, 1996)
Two paintings created specifically for the occasion accompany the presentation of the monumental sculpture It’s Not So Much Fun to Pick Up the Pieces. The artist’s exploration of power, embodied by the monument, continues here through subjects that also draw on ancient history, such as the fawn discovered during excavations at Herculaneum.
