Life with The Big House Cats

Well, that weigh-in sucked. 😂❤️

Not all of it! We had some really great wins, but I’m super bummed about Biggie and Beefy. Both boys gained weight. 🫠

And the irony? They’re the two cats who aren’t living full-time in the sanctuary. Go figure. 😂

So what happened? Probably a combination of things. We’ve had foster kittens around with their delicious high-calorie food, and the boys have turned into absolute THIEVES. I swear we spend half our lives policing everyone, making sure nobody is stealing food. At one point Beefy even ate kitten food VOMIT. Yes, vomit.

As much as we love fostering kittens, I think we’re going to have to stop. We just can’t manage the constant food policing with two very determined chonks who will apparently eat anything that isn’t nailed down. 😂

I also suspect I’ve overcorrected calories in some cases, and quite frankly, we probably haven’t been as diligent as we should have been.

Biggie’s weight is partly a correction from what he lost around his dental surgery, but it’s still a gain, and neither boy needs to be heading in that direction. And that’s on us.

I’m not beating myself up (maybe one black eye not two lol) but I do believe in accountability. We talk about calories ALL the time, so when we get it wrong, I think it’s important to share that too.

Weight loss isn’t linear, and apparently helping over 40 morbidly obese cats doesn’t make us immune to screwing up. 😂

We share the wins, so we’re going to share the crappy weigh-ins too. We’re human, we make mistakes, we adjust and keep going.

And with Thanksgiving here, I’m reminded how much we still have to be grateful for. These cats are alive, loved and getting second chances. A frustrating number on the scale doesn’t change that. ❤️
