“The Space Between Us”

Two people sitting close enough to touch, yet seemingly lost in two different worlds.

One looks towards the other. The other looks down, caught somewhere between a cigarette, a phone, and a thought we will never know.

There is something quietly beautiful about the way they sit together. No effort to fill the silence, no need to entertain each other. Just two people sharing a small piece of pavement while the rest of the world carries on.

I wonder what happened just before this moment. Were they in the middle of a conversation? Had they run out of words? Or was this simply one of those rare moments when silence feels more natural than speaking?

What fascinates me about people is how much we try to understand from so little. A gesture, a glance, the distance between two bodies. We build entire stories around strangers who may be thinking about something as ordinary as what to have for dinner.

And perhaps that’s what I love most about this photograph.

It gives us just enough to imagine, but never enough to know.
