FT: Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona

Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona in Istanbul, and that is a seriously impressive Champions League win. 🔵🔴🔥 This was always going to be one of those difficult European away nights where the atmosphere is intense, the opposition are aggressive and the game can quickly become uncomfortable, and Barcelona actually did fall behind after Batrakov’s opener. But what followed was probably the most impressive part of the performance — they did not panic. Cancelo equalised before half-time, and then Barça completely took over after the break.

The second half was ruthless. Fermín put Barcelona ahead, Anthony Gordon made it 3-1 just minutes later, and Adeyemi finished the job with the fourth. Four different scorers, goals from different areas of the team and another reminder of how many attacking solutions this squad has. Even without Raphinha, Barça still looked capable of overwhelming a strong opponent away from home, and players like Gordon and Adeyemi continue to show how quickly they have settled into this team.

What also stood out was the mentality. Going behind away at Galatasaray could easily have turned into one of those chaotic Champions League nights, especially with the crowd fully behind them, but Barcelona stayed composed and trusted their football. Once they found the equaliser, the whole game changed. The passing became quicker, the movement sharper and Galatasaray simply could not live with the speed of Barça’s attacks in the second half.

And this result feels important beyond just the scoreline. Winning 4-1 away in the Champions League sends a message that Barcelona’s incredible domestic form is translating into Europe as well. They are scoring goals for fun, different players are stepping up every week and even when the game does not start perfectly, they have the confidence to completely turn it around.

So this is 60.

I’ve lived a life that would sound made up if there weren’t so many witnesses. There have been wild adventures, questionable decisions, a few reinventions, and stories best told after the second bottle.

From PR and advertising to roasting coffee, opening a speakeasy, and writing a novel, I apparently confused “slowing down” with “opening something else.”

It hasn’t all been easy, and I haven’t gotten everything right. But I’ve taken chances, laughed my ass off, and built a life I couldn’t possibly have planned.

And then there’s my wife, Kira. Of all the unexpected turns, ending up with you is the one I’m most grateful for. You’re my best friend, my partner in this beautiful insanity, and somehow both the voice of reason and my biggest enabler. We’ve built businesses, chased crazy ideas, traveled, and laughed our way through a life neither of us could have predicted. I love your heart, your brilliant mind, your wicked sense of humor, and that we genuinely love being together—even after spending all day together. The adventures make great stories, but it’s the everyday life with you that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Sixty looks a hell of a lot better with you beside me.

And to my son and daughter: being your dad will always be one of the greatest privileges of my life. I love you both, I’m proud of the people you’ve become, and no matter how old any of us get, I’ll always be in your corner.

Now I get to celebrate with over 200 people from every chapter of my life. Childhood friends, college friends, newer friends, and friends flying in from around the country will all be together in one room. You know very different versions of me, and between you, you probably know far too much.

All kidding aside, that’s genuinely humbling. Taking time out of your lives, getting on planes, and showing up for me means more than I can put into a birthday post. I don’t take any of it for granted.

Thank you for being part of this crazy life—and for encouraging behavior we should probably all know better than to encourage.

Pour the good stuff. We’re nowhere near finished. 🥂
