12 days agoThese are concrete examples of Palestinians using AI as a tool for cultural resistance, artistic expression, and preserving Palestinian identity—not just as a military technology. Palestine TechnoPark brought Palestinian artists, technologists and cultural practitioners together to use Midjourney to reimagine Palestinian history, the Nakba, displacement, Gaza's future, return and liberation. The organizers explicitly framed AI art as a way of resisting cultural erasure. There are also direct music examples. Checkpoint 303's release of Refaat Alareer's “If I Must Die” uses generative AI in its cover/video while turning Alareer's poetry into electronic protest music. The project explicitly identifies itself as an activist sonic project focused on Palestine. And this isn't simply Palestinians consuming AI made elsewhere: Palestine TechnoPark now has an AI & Data Lab developing Palestinian AI capacity, including locally relevant models and datasets. So AI can absolutely become part of Palestinian cultural resistance: making art, music and narratives that preserve memory, imagine liberation and counter erasure. The technology doesn't inherently belong to the state or corporation using it; Palestinians can appropriate the same tools for their own creative and political purposes. __________ Sources: https://www.technopark.ps/en/Article/754/AI-in-Reimagining-What-Was-and-What-Could-Be-Nakba-Reflections-Through-AI-Art https://technopark.ps/en/Article/619/Reimagining-Palestinian-Symbols-Palestine-Technopark-and-The-Animation-Factory-Host-AI-and-Visual-Arts-Workshop https://checkpoint303.bandcamp.com/track/if-i-must-die https://www.technopark.ps/en/Article/753/Palestine-TechnoPark%E2%80%99s-AI--Data-Lab-Ushers-in-a-New-Era-of-Innovation

17 days agoHard agree!!! They are forcing clinicians and doctors where I live to use AI for patient notes, like tf. Without asking the patient or allowing an opt out. AI is notorious for getting things wrong. It's scary bad. Confidentiality can't be maintained either as AI can hack and be hacked. Not to mention there are more environmentally safe ways to build data centers they just don't want to. We need a blue wave in midterms, and ppl stand up to force a stop & review of every aspect, then make a plan for the future. Bc RN it's just a lawless free for all that nobody will stop. I'm not even a political person I'm just tired, and blue is the only side offering anything. 🫶

22 days agoWhat's you standing point with accessibility aids for people with a disability an AI? For example AAC devices (voice computers). Yes, I find it hard to choose between not wanting to use AI, and wanting to use a AI (predicting) AAC device for my disability.
23 days agoGEMA just won a court case against Suno proofing that ai music is basically theft (very bad summary here, also it’s music, but makes one hopeful for the rest of the creative world)…
