22 days agoReally? Is something you need for medical reasons learned helplessness? By that logic is using insulin with Diabetes (instead of, you know, dying) learned helplessness? Or going to a hospital for broken limb and getting it in a cast?
22 days agomy wheelchair gave me a couple more years of having more energy to do things! it reduces sm pain, keeps me from falling, reduces dysautonomia symptoms, and lets me consistently be able to leave my bed and go outside. If I didn't have my wheelchair, I would be house bound and mostly bed bound.
22 days agoMy neurologist told me not to use my wheelchair because it will make me lazy after I told him I can’t walk to far without my body going literally limp. I absolutely love going out and sometimes the only way I can is if I use my Wheelchair. he basically told me to never go out and stay inside all day because that would be my reality if I didn’t use my wheelchair.
22 days agoPeople also underestimate how inconvenient mobility aids are when you don't need them. I would prefer to walk around my house, but my body can't handle it
22 days agopeople who don’t know how to actually use therapy speak / words need to stop using them! (not directed at op)
22 days agoSköll says you’re doing amazing given the state you’re in, and while the world may never understand what disabled people go through in the slightest, every achievement is huge and should be celebrated! 🫶🏻💖 I used to feel ashamed to need my wheelchair 99% of the time, but there’s no need to be ashamed that you’re getting out into the world in the way that makes it possible!
