Some moments make you reflect on how beautifully life comes full circle.

For those who might not know, Lauren Santo Domingo gave me my very first opportunity in the fashion industry back in 2002, when I had my first internship at Vogue. More than two decades later, I feel incredibly grateful that our paths continue to cross in such meaningful ways.

Since the beginning of @latinamericanfashionsummit , Lauren and @modaoperandi have been among our biggest supporters, opening doors for Latin American talent and now giving our Pitch to LAFS winners the opportunity to be part of the Moda Operandi retail ecosystem. Something that means so much to me.

Our second evening in Cartagena, celebrating the Four Seasons with Moda Operandi and the Santo Domingo family, was truly unforgettable.

What I loved most was how beautifully the evening celebrated Colombia’s rich cultural heritage. From the traditional dance performances to an incredible live performance by Fonseca, and a beautiful dinner by chef Mario Carbone, every detail was a celebration of Colombian culture, music, history, and hospitality.

And perhaps that’s what made this weekend so special. Beyond the beautiful setting and celebrations, it was about bringing people together while honoring the extraordinary culture and talent that make Colombia so unique.

Thank you, Lauren, Moda Operandi, and the Santo Domingo family, for such a memorable weekend and for continuing to create spaces that celebrate and elevate Latin American talent. Outfits in linkinbio #fscartagena #modaoperandi

In the schools of Azerbaijan, wearing a headscarf is now prohibited. I think this is a good thing.

As young girls in Iran, we unfortunately had no choice. The ayatollahs forced us to cover ourselves, supposedly to prevent men from being tempted by us. In this way, we were reduced to our sex and officially treated as second-class citizens. Despite being in no way inferior to boys in intelligence or ability, certain people regarded us as nothing more than breeding machines.

When I lived in Iran, my dream was to one day take off my headscarf and dress freely as a woman. I no longer wanted to be invisible behind ideologically imposed Islamic clothing. I wanted to be much more than my sex: I wanted to be a successful human being, not someone who had to cover herself to protect men from their own lustful looks.

Fortunately, Iranians have always resisted this oppression. But this is what the Islamists wanted to impose on us. Those who refused risked being flogged by the morality police.

It is shameful that, in the West today, such a degrading concept, which requires women to cover themselves, is being defended and even presented as a form of emancipation.

Let a child be a child. No girl should have to grow up believing that she must cover herself to deserve respect. Yet this is precisely what is taught within Muslim communities: if you do not cover yourself, you become an object of male lust and lose the respect of your community.

In Western schools, we must fight for gender equality and prohibit all forms of discrimination against women.

The photo below shows me with my classmates when I was 17. Every one of them was a bright girl, chained to the hijab.

We worked hard to free ourselves. Yet some of us ultimately fell victim to the ayatollahs.

Does the West truly want to help girls growing up in Islamic communities, or does it want to abandon them?

Let people enjoy equality and freedom instead of allowing them to be discriminated against by dogmatic religious beliefs and the social pressure of their communities. That is my choice.

We live in the West. Let our Western values prevail. #freefromhijab
