Not unlike the hurricane’s eye, Hilario-Reyes’s newest drawing series traces footwork as a modality of both evasion and enmeshment. Using dance notation as the written representation of movement, akin to musical score’s systems, the dance floor’s footfall becomes swirling marks across sheets of translucent vellum. Layered atop each other, accruing line after line, individuation disappears and legibility fades toward a collective motion.
