Designer Rotem Fire starts from psychoanalyst Esther Bick's idea of the "second skin": when the body's first sense of being held is disturbed, the self builds a substitute shell to keep itself together. Created at Shenkar, the project reads Thierry Mugler's biomechanical armour through that lens of somatic defence.
A repurposed metal strainer becomes a sculptural corset, a rigid exoskeleton engineered to project independence while quietly doing the work of holding. The accompanying jacket fuses three textiles, each aggressively slashed open, and through the fractured slits and metallic mesh erupts human hair, bleached and lightened over a long, slow process.
Cold metal meets distressed organic matter, and the tension makes the argument plain. This armour is not a sign of invulnerability. It is an urgent container for a fragile, uncontained self.
