OCTOBER 16, 1995. A DAY THAT CHANGED HISTORY. 31 years ago, hundreds of thousands of Black men gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the historic Million Man March, inspired and convened by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Minister Farrakhan has described the divine inspiration behind the march as a call from Allah for Black men to rise to a higher level of consciousness, atonement, reconciliation, and responsibility. What emerged was more than a march. It was a spiritual awakening. On this Holy Day of Atonement, Black men came together to examine themselves, reconcile with one another, and accept responsibility for their families, communities, and the future of our people. In a society that has historically sought to divide Black men and fracture our families, that day demonstrated the power of unity and collective purpose. Men from different backgrounds stood shoulder to shoulder, united by a shared commitment to something greater than themselves. Atonement meant taking accountability. Reconciliation meant healing our divisions. Responsibility meant understanding that the liberation of our people requires discipline, sacrifice, moral courage, and service. The significance of that gathering extended far beyond the National Mall. It challenged Black men to become better fathers, brothers, leaders, and builders. It reminded us that our strength is not merely in our numbers, but in our character, our unity, and our willingness to sacrifice for generations yet unborn. Few gatherings in American history have carried such profound spiritual and cultural significance. The march lasted a day, but its message continues to resonate across generations. The true measure of the Million Man March is not simply how many men showed up, but how faithfully we carry its principles forward. The work continues. We must atone. We must reconcile. We must take responsibility and rebuild what has been broken. Long live the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Long live the spirit of the historic Million Man March. May we never forget what is possible when Black men answer the call to truth, unity, and responsibility. October 16, 1995. Never forgotten.
I was delighted to meet Dr. Omar Mohammad, a historian and writer whose work I have long admired, in person today. For years, Omar’s work was famous the world over without anyone knowing his name. His anonymously authored blog, Mosul Eye, became a rare, reliable source of information from inside northern Iraq during the darkest period of ISIS’s control over the region. Omar refused to let his city be destroyed in silence, and he continues to tell the story of Mosul and its struggle for a better future today. His new book documents the work of bearing witness—sometimes while risking everything. I hope it inspires a new generation to defend freedom and transparency as he did and does.
What is life in the “right” order? Because I’m increasingly interested in doing the opposite. My timeline is mine. My phone can wait. My pyjamas are fucking gorgeous. And if I love you, you’ll probably know about it. Send this to the woman who is also done with being permanently available x
Maybe the real Wish is the friendships we Believed in along the way ✨ What a sailing this was. Nonstop chaos, challenges, speculation, and laughter. I will never take these opportunities for granted, and alongside a million other reasons, I am immensely grateful for the friendships I’ve made because of them. 🥹🙏 It dawned on me that while I’ve been lucky enough to sail on the Wish before, this was my first time hosted on board. This meant a lot to me, more than I can say. If you had told me in 2022, the year that both the Wish & Mammoth Club debuted, that we would get invited a few years later to help celebrate Disney’s newest ship, I wouldn’t have believed you. But I guess, as cheesy as it is, wishes do come true.✨ Thank you @disneycruiseline @disneyparks for having me. 🫶 #disneybelievereveal #disneycruiseline hosted
