28 years of Without You I’m Nothing 🖤 Go on, try picking just ONE song from this album. I dare you! And If you could only quote one line, which would it be? Placebo’s second studio album, ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, a timeless alternative rock classic, was released on 12 October 1998 and reached No. 7 on the UK Albums Chart. If Placebo's self-titled debut was the night before, Without You I'm Nothing is the morning after. Whereas their first singles swaggered with libidinous confidence, the songs on Without You reek of self-loathing, guilt, and shame. “By the time that we came off tour, I was in such a fragile emotional state that I ended up on anti-depressants. I was just fucked up. I'd taken my soul through the blender, and I really just didn't know who I was anymore. I was disgusted with myself.” But adversity has always been an engine of creativity. After coming off the road, the band locked themselves into a subterranean room with no windows for two months and wrote the new record. “We had to do a lot of soul-searching. We had to really look inside of ourselves and... realise what we had done. I think there's a lot of guilt on that record, and it talks about a few relationships that I had which I think that I basically did my best to ruin but I didn't know any better at the time. It's a very heartbroken album.” Looking back at Without You I'm Nothing 28 years later, the album was a major building block in shaping Placebo into the band we know today. The iconic yellow cover of WYIN was designed by English photographer Corinne Day. It features sisters Sarah and Sally sitting at a table, gazing down. The soft light filtering through the curtains creates a warm yellow hue that defines the album's aesthetic. #placebo #placeboworld #brianmolko #90s #alternativerock @placeboworld
. Fellow musicians… song writers … performers … bands. I see a lot of you posting about how down you are , how depressed you are that you released a song on your Socials and you’re not getting noticed or people aren’t responding. No one cares. I got news for you if you thought it was gonna be that easy … just recording a song and posting it on Socials and digital platforms … i’m sorry, but that’s delusional. And respectfully … lazy and entitled. Yes, there’s a one in 1 billion chances one of your songs may go viral … but that ain’t being an artist … an artist has to earn that kind of success or adoration. And I believe the only true way to get what you deserve is to become who you are ON A STAGE way before recording and releasing anything. You see when singles first came out way back in the 1900s they were only used to give to radio stations to promote your shows so people could come and see you perform and then if you were incredible, and delivered and had something special you were on your way. Because performing live to humans is the only way you’re gonna get that kind of love and respect … much more so than just releasing a cool clip of a song on socials. that’s how you will separate yourself from the pack because in this day of quick fixes on your phone , and no longer knowing if what you’re actually watching and listening to is real or not … there is a revolution happening that people are searching for the human experience more and more. THIS IS YOUR TIME. no matter your age. Keep pushing on that stage … play back yard parties , small, shitty clubs , bars, Hustle , and I promise you if you have something to offer musically or something to say … with passion, fire, and a WHAT THE FUCK performance , word gets out and THEY WILL COME. I know you might be thinking that this is old-school thinking… but I promise you rock ‘n’ roll was ALWAYS built for the stage. It must be FELT and experienced not just heard. Fans at a show will never forget how you made them feel. And between your performance and socials if you are who you believe you are … the gatekeepers will come to YOU.
