The other night Nova told me she’s been writing poetry & asked if she could read it to me. I got so excited because I love poetry & have been writing since I was about her age. She’s only 11 years old. So admittedly I wasn’t expecting something super profound or deep if I’m being completely honest. But then she read the title first “Jane Doe’s Bows” & I was a bit shocked. Because I talked to her about Jane Doe’s situation one morning when she saw it on the news. So we had a long, intense, but necessary conversation. I thought that was it. She never mentioned it again or asked any more questions about it. Then she started reading it out loud & I just had to record it. Because after she was done. I was very moved & so impressed with her capacity to not only understand such complex situations, but the ability to alchemize them into art. I’m SO proud of this girl! She never ceases to amaze me & I’m so blessed & honored to be her father! 🥹🫶😭🙏 #GirlDad #NovaleeReign #WomensRights #JaneDoe #Cornell

HELP! Donations needed. This is not how I expected my Friday morning to go. I noticed a dog in a crate on the side of the road in the hot sun, just laying there. I called a friend and asked if they could help. When we arrived, we noticed the dog was laying in its own feces with flies and fleas all over with no food. 😩 Then noticed a second dog in the same condition. There was a man sitting there with who said they weren’t his dogs, and he wasn’t sure who they belong to. There’s a lot going on in this encampment so we yelled to try to find an owner and no one stepped up. We could not get any straight answers. All I know is that we were not going to leave these dogs in this condition. We’re having a big heatwave here in Southern California and these poor animals had no protection from the elements. If you’re going to have a dog, you need to provide appropriate care and that’s that. Apologies for the language. No one stepped up so we’re considering these dogs abandoned and we were not about to allow them to die from heat stroke today. We always have a plan, A and Plan B in place for every dog we rescue. This was completely unexpected and we have no place for these dogs so they will be going with our trainer until we can find fosters. These guys are just about a year old and are beyond sweet, but zero training and incredibly hyper from being pent up, locked in a small little cage. They’re now with our vet, getting exams, vaccinated, etc. They weren’t chipped, of course. Please consider donating. These dogs need the works. It’s such a tricky time to talk about Paris and style. When I shot these images the protests were only beginning and although I could sometimes hear the drama playing out in Place de le Republique everything around Le Marais was business as usual - even the Marche couvert des Enfants Rouges was still going strong. However Paris , like New York, is strong and will come through this even stronger. I hope you enjoys the images because they really are strong and can hopefully ring a little inspiration in a heavy moment.
