🤠 Interesting fact:
⠀
Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970) — This Western film follows Hogan, a wandering mercenary who rescues Sister Sara, a nun, from a band of rogues on the Mexican plains. Their unexpected alliance leads them to blow up a train and a French garrison, all while navigating a growing spark between them and a shocking discovery. Set during the second French intervention in Mexico, they aid Juarista rebels against Emperor Maximilian’s reign.
⠀
One interesting production fact is that the original screenplay was written by Budd Boetticher, who envisioned Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr in the lead roles. Boetticher had planned for Kerr’s character to be a member of the Mexican aristocracy, with her true identity as a nun being a surprise to the audience.
⠀
What makes Two Mules for Sister Sara stand out is its blend of action, adventure, and unexpected camaraderie against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution. The film explores themes of unlikely alliances and the blurred lines between good and bad in a time of conflict. Its central question is whether a mercenary and a nun can find common ground and ignite a spark amidst the chaos of war.
