The first time I stepped onto that mountain, I felt its magnitude. I felt the risk. What I didn’t know then was how deeply that mountain would become woven into our family’s story for the next 18 years.. Over the years, I’ve witnessed the highest highs and the lowest lows. Nine months pregnant with Ayla, I watched Cameron make history. Ten years later, that same little girl sat on her dad’s shoulders, being sprayed with champagne alongside Crue as we celebrated another win. And one year after that, she was fainting in a hospital, watching her dad strapped to a bed, unsure of the outcome. To think that I’ve spent more time in the St. George hospital than any other hospital in the world and I’ve never lived there. 🫣 I’ve been beside Cam in the bird 🚁 for a victory lap, and to be life-flighted off that mountain. We’ve watched dear friends suffer life-changing injuries.. we are fully aware of the consequences here.. These moments don’t end when the crowds go home. They stay with you. All of them. They shape your family. They change the way you see everything. People see the few minutes on the mountain, but they don’t see the months of physical and mental preparation, the sacrifices, the pressure, the diggers, the people working behind the scenes, or the families carrying the weight alongside them. And after all these years, I stilllllll struggle with the risk versus the reward.. I don’t know what it’s like to love a sport so fiercely that those risks feel worth taking. I absolutely struggle with what that risk means for our family But I also believe in standing beside the person you love. In supporting the passions that make them who they are, even when you don’t fully understand them. “How do you do this!?” I don’t think i have much of a choice other than to find a way to be calm for our children. I trust that God will carry us through every storm… even the ones we don’t understand. >>> continue in comments>>>
