Already paying for Netflix or Prime? You could eventually need to pay towards the BBC too. 🇬🇧📺

Here’s how it works in the UK: a standard TV licence costs £180 a year, usually covering a household. You need one to watch or record live TV on any channel, including live sports or to use BBC iPlayer. That applies even if you already pay for Sky, Netflix or Prime.

But not everyone has to pay. If you only watch on-demand Netflix, Prime or ordinary YouTube videos, and don’t use BBC iPlayer, you currently don’t need a licence.

That distinction matters as more people move away from traditional television. Around 540,000 fewer licences were in force in 2025/26. The BBC also recorded a £121 million deficit that year, although that isn’t a loss caused solely by cancellations.

To address the funding pressure, a wider licence fee is being considered that could bring streaming-only households into the system—even those already paying for subscriptions and never watching the BBC. MPs have recommended broadening the fee from 2028, potentially reducing the amount each household pays.

This has NOT become law, and no new charge has been confirmed.

Should you have to fund the BBC if you never watch it or should paying be your choice? 👇

One year of Choosin’ Texas 🤍 This song… I am constantly & consistently amazed by what this song has done & how much y’all continue to love it. You’ll never know how much it means to me & everyone involved in making it come to life, thankful is an understatement. Here’s to 365 days of madness @joybethtaylor @mirandalambert @lukedick

Kiitos ihanista viesteistä Helsingin Sanomissa julkaistuun juttuun liittyen. 🩷🥹

Kiitos @helsinginsanomat kivasta jutusta🤍

Thrilled to announce @i.am.blanka as the second guest of Ritua 🔥

We will be playing all night long on the 13th of November at Prince Charles in Berlin.

BLANKA is not only a great artist with her singular approach to a funky and sensual techno, she’s also a friend I’ve known for many years.

Yet this will be our first time sharing the booth together and we’re beyond excited ✨

See you on the dancefloor ❤️‍🔥
