I’ve been exploring what it really means to repair a relationship. And increasingly, I’m interested in the relationship we have with ourselves.

How many times have we ignored our own knowing? Talked ourselves into something that didn’t feel right? Explained away discomfort because our minds had already decided what we *should* want, feel, or do?

I’ve spent a lot of my life living in my head. Analyzing, intellectualizing, trying to understand myself and everyone around me. And while that’s given me a tremendous amount of insight, I’ve learned that understanding something intellectually doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve worked through it.

Our minds and bodies aren’t separate, but they don’t always seem to be having the same conversation.

I can decide something makes perfect sense while my body is responding with tension, anxiety, or resistance. And I’ve gotten pretty good at overriding those signals with my thinking.

So what does repairing that relationship actually look like?

For me, it’s been learning to slow down enough to notice what’s happening in my body before immediately trying to explain it.

What does a yes feel like? What does a no feel like? What happens when I allow myself to experience a difficult emotion without immediately analyzing it, rationalizing it, or trying to make it go away?

And can I become curious about those sensations without automatically assuming I know what they mean?

Because our bodies carry our histories, too. Our experiences shape how our nervous systems respond, sometimes long after the circumstances that shaped those responses have changed.

Reconnecting with myself isn’t just about understanding my patterns. It’s about developing a different relationship with what I feel, what I need, and how I respond.

Awareness is where the conversation begins. Repair is what happens when we start listening differently.
