I’ll return to my fun teacher posts tomorrow, but my heart is heavy today.

Fall Break should mean time to relax and decompress halfway through a hectic semester, but more time alone means more time to think. More time to remember.

My heart is grieving. It’s grieving for the girl I used to be before it happened to me. It’s grieving for the young woman at Cornell. It’s grieving for the young woman lying in bed right now trying to process what happened over the weekend. For the teenage girl desperately trying not to check her Snapchat notifications right now. For the one in four of my female students who will go through this in their lifetimes.

We are all Jane Doe until none of us are Jane Doe. We absolutely must protect each other.
