NYCC 2026! š„ Another one for the books!
Been attending New York Comic Con since 2015! Without the pandemic and vaccination mandates, this wouldāve been our 12th in-person NYCC. We missed two years but still purchased virtual tickets, making this our 10th in person! October 10th also marked 19 years together for me and hubby! ā¤ļø
Now onto Gundam! From the giant mobile suits to upcoming Gunpla kits and Gundam Rogue Orbit, dropping March 5, 2027, there was plenty to check out!
Got to play the demo, and I aināt gonna lie, the gameplay was š„! We received a lanyard and early unlock code, scored promo cards from the Gundam photo opportunity, and attended the panel, where we picked up a Gunpla kit, bag, posters, and more goodies!
But I wonāt pretend everything was peaches and cream. There were pros and cons.
Unfortunately, hubby experienced what we felt was racial profiling and disability discrimination elsewhere at NYCC.
Heās Afro-Latino, with braids, a beard, and that NYC hip-hop style. Some judged him before even knowing him.
He has a C3-C4 cervical fusion with metal hardware, hearing loss in his left ear, and balance difficulties. Some mistake his loud voice for aggression when heās simply having trouble hearing. He even carried his surgical paperwork because people questioned his disability based on his appearance.
Letās educate, not judge. Disabilities arenāt always visible. Neither race, clothing, nor appearance determines someoneās character, abilities, or right to belong in a community. Being a gamer or comic book fan doesnāt come with a dress code!
We hope
@reedpop and
@newyorkcomiccon continue improving accessibility, staff awareness, and respectful treatment of ALL attendees.
Iāll share more about those experiences separately. And to be CLEAR, NONE of this happened at the Gundam booth! The staff there were excellent, and we genuinely appreciated the experience!
10 NYCCs, 19 years together, and still making memories! š„
