An Unexpected Visitor from Siberia. Today I had a very unexpected visitor in the forest right next to my house, far above the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland. A bird I never imagined I would encounter here! At first, I thought it was an ordinary Eurasian Nuthatch, which would have been quite a surprise in itself, as even they are uncommon this far north. But after managing to get a few photos and with some help from my birdwatching friends, I realised I had stumbled upon something even more unusual, a Siberian Nuthatch! The Siberian Nuthatch (Sitta europaea asiatica) is a subspecies of the Eurasian Nuthatch, normally found much farther east, in Siberia. With its beautiful blue grey plumage and almost pure white underside, it’s a remarkable little bird and a very rare visitor to this part of Sweden. Nuthatches are fascinating little birds, famous for their ability to climb down tree trunks headfirst. They also collect and hide seeds and nuts to help them survive the winter. Now I’m curious to see whether this little visitor was just passing through or has decided to make my forest its new home. I’m certainly hoping for the latter! And hopefully I will get the chance to photograph it again in the beautiful Arctic winter light. #wildlifephotography #birdphotography #birding #sittaeuropaeaasiatica #nature Sony A1 II + Laowa 200/f2
The word "ciao" originated in Venice, Italy, from the Venetian expression "s-ciavo vostro," literally meaning "I am your slave." It was originally a polite way of expressing respect, similar to saying "at your service." Over time, the expression was shortened to "ciao" and lost its original meaning. By the 19th century, it had spread across northern Italy as a casual greeting. Italian migration helped carry the word around the world, particularly to South America. In Argentina, it became "chau," while Brazilians adopted "tchau." Variations also became common throughout the Balkans and parts of Europe. Interestingly, the word even reached the Horn of Africa through Italian influence, including its colonial presence. Today, Italians use "ciao" for both hello and goodbye, while most other countries use it primarily when saying goodbye. One of the world's most recognizable greetings began as an expression of servitude.
Do it for the version of you that couldn’t ❤️‍🔥 Gym: @mj_lndn 😤
