βOne doesnβt need magic if one knows enough stories.β
Emily Wilde is a brilliant scholar of faeries and possibly the most socially awkward protagonist iβve ever had the pleasure of reading about, and i absolutely adored her! π sheβs practical, blunt, and far more comfortable with books than with people, which honestly made her very relatable πββοΈ watching her slowly form connections with the villagers, the faeries, and especially Wendell was one of my favorite parts of the story!!!
and Wendell!! he has officially been added to my βfavorite book boyfriends listβ π€ he is mysterious, dramatic, and absolutely delightful!!! every scene he appeared in made the book even more entertaining π
the academic journal format made the world feel incredibly captivating, like youβre reading real field notes about faerie lore π the writing is whimsical and magical, but also cozy and atmospheric in the best way!!
at times the story was also a little unsettling, which i loved! the descriptions of the faeries were done incredibly well! they felt eerie, strange, and fascinating all at once, and i could picture them perfectly π§π»
this book felt like sitting by a fire in a snowy cottage π‘ while someone tells you strange, beautiful faerie stories <3
i loved the folklore, the humor, the slow character development, and the magical winter setting ποΈ
i cannot wait to continue this series!!
