One of the most striking sights on San Francisco’s waterfront is about to disappear. If you haven’t seen the giant female statue at Embarcadero Plaza yet, this is your last chance. It will be gone by the end of the week.
The 45-foot-tall sculpture of a naked woman by Bay Area artist Marco Cochrane is being dismantled after roughly 18 months on the waterfront. The stainless-steel work, originally titled R-Evolution and later renamed I Am, was first created for Burning Man in 2015 and is modeled on Bay Area artist and dancer Deja Solis.
The figure, standing with her eyes closed and palms open, was conceived as a statement about feminine strength, agency, and presence. The sculpture was installed at Embarcadero Plaza in April 2025, where it became one of the most visible public artworks along San Francisco’s waterfront.
Crews began taking it apart on October 12, 2026, ahead of planned redevelopment work in the plaza. After dismantling, the sculpture is expected to return to storage, with its future location still undecided.
