Back when I was a trainer, I would visit customers’ homes. I worked with a customer whose primary language was Spanish. I went and asked if they were ready for their videophone installation, and I explained everything to the customer and their mom. The mom said, “No hablo inglés.” I realized she only spoke Spanish. I smiled and said, “I can speak Spanish too!” and started talking in Spanish. She looked surprised and asked, “You speak Spanish?” I said, “Yes! And I’m here to help install a videophone.” “This is a great way to stay connected with everyone She found a phone number and made the call on the videophone. An interpreter appeared on the screen. The customer’s child signed, “Hi, Aunt!” They introduced themselves and started asking how she was doing. The conversation began naturally. The aunt on the other end was confused at first, then realized an interpreter was helping with the call. She said, “Wow, this is really nice!” The mom was amazed! And just like that, the conversation began. Family members gathered around the videophone. The customer was connecting with their family. It was incredible to see. That’s a visit I will never forget.
