In “‘And the Forum Lay in Ruins,’” former senior web editor Travis Jeppesen delivers a scathing insider account of the magazine’s decline—from David Velasco’s firing and the fallout over Palestine to Tina Rivers Ryan’s leadership, Jay Penske’s corporate ownership, censorship, staff resignations, and a culture of fear.

Revisiting the magazine’s history, from Lynda Benglis’s infamous 1974 ad to its present-day crisis, Jeppesen asks how the art world’s most influential magazine lost its voice.

How to: Wayercolour Christmas Tree

1. Paint a thin brown line down the centre of your paper.
2. Paint V lines all the way down the line for branches.
3. Paint little green lines for line needles along the V branches.
4. Dip your brush in water and tap off the excess on side of your pot.
5. Use your wet brush to paint lines over the pine needles to make them swell and appear fuller.
6. Paint a bucket shape at the bottom of the tree.
7. Paint different coloured dots all over the tree for lights. Don’t worry if the colours bleed into the green a little, this will look pretty!
8. Paint the trunk down into the bucket.
