Thrilled that this recent work by Darcy and I has been included in the upcoming Geelong Contemporary Art Prize.
The work was inspired by the front garden of the house across the road from the one in which I grew up. The two houses are divided by a wide busy main road so we have never known the occupants, we rarely crossed that scary road. I’ve seen the assorted ornaments in the garden grow in number over the years on my frequent visits to my elderly parents. Last year I painted this house and the assorted bird ornaments in the front yard and invited my adult son Darcy to add some extra birds. Darcy’s additions are always perfect, they’re joyous. Mum and Dad have both passed away so we’re preparing to say goodbye to our old family home. There has been so much change in the last year, including the arrangement of ornaments in this garden. The number of frogs has grown, bumped up by 2 imposing additions by Darcy. The birds are outnumbered and seem a little intimidated, but Darcy and I think frogs rule.🐸🐸
