Geisha or Oiran? Hereโ€™s the difference ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

Oiran (่Šฑ้ญ) were elite courtesans in Edo-period Japan, known for their elaborate kimono, towering hairstyles and ornate hairpins. Unlike geisha, who specialised in traditional arts and entertainment, oiran belonged to Japanโ€™s historic pleasure quarters.

This Oiran Dochu (่Šฑ้ญ้“ไธญ) is a recreation of their grand procession, held at Nagoyaโ€™s Osu Street Performers Festival every October. Itโ€™s free to watch and a fascinating way to experience traditional Japanese culture.
