Damon Andrew Jackson is scheduled to go before Michigan’s parole board on Nov. 30 after being convicted of sexually abusing and fatally injuring his infant son, David. David was about a month old when the abuse happened in 1997. He survived for roughly two and a half years with severe brain injuries before passing away. Jackson was 17 at the time and originally received life without parole. After legal challenges involving juvenile sentencing, he was resentenced in 2022 to 35 to 60 years. The women who cared for David and his sister are fighting to keep Jackson behind bars. The upcoming review does not guarantee his release. David deserved safety, love and a chance to grow up. Today, the fashion industry barely had time to reckon with the announcement of Veronica Leoni leaving Calvin Klein Collection before news of Seán McGirr’s departure from McQueen came out. And this all comes on the heels of another significant departure that rocked the industry last week: Anthony Vaccarello left Saint Laurent after ten years.  Leoni’s stint at Calvin Klein Collection was brief, spanning only four seasons. She followed Raf Simons’ buzzy leadership, which, frankly, was not a terribly easy act to follow. Her vision for the brand was refined, elegant, and true to the house’s history, but failed to make an impact even close to that of her predecessor.  McGirr spent three years at the helm of McQueen. His collections were met with tepid reviews, and the company began restructuring in June due to declining sales. To be fair, it’s an especially heavy lift taking on a legendary name like McQueen; Expectations are high with regard to provocation and concept. This was especially true for the brand’s London Fashion Week homecoming collection just last month. Like Leoni’s Calvin Klein, McGirr’s Mcqueen only grazed the surface of all the house is known for. Rumours are already swirling: Pierpaolo Piccioli is said to be on the outs with Balenciaga after just one rather unpopular year. Chemena Kamali, currently Chloé’s creative director, is almost officially recognized as Vaccarello’s successor at Saint Laurent. If true, she would be the first woman to lead the French house. But that would leave another seat open at Chloé. One hopes that another woman might fill one of the newly empty seats to balance the scales of gender representation in the top tiers of fashion. The online fashion contingent is pointing to Dilara Findikoglu or Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran of Matières Fécales for McQueen. Not only does MF often resemble Lee McQueen’s incendiary glamour (sometimes to a fault) but the design duo has a unique ability to attract a high profile crowd and drum up a healthy discourse about conceptual luxury. And then there is Hedi Slimane, a name that is never far from the rumor mill… Who would you like to see working for these houses next?
