WARNING: THIS INTERVIEW IS SERIOUSLY INSPIRING

Next week’s podcast guest is the formidable @danielle.cass

She started surfing at 52, and if that wasn’t badass enough, a year ago she received a diagnosis of advanced breast cancer, and her first statement to her medical team was “I’m going to surf through it”.

What makes me love her most is that she could have been entirely forgiven for wanting to retreat to her own bubble, get on with her treatment, surf when she could, and that would be the end of it.

But she’s chosen to do so much more than that. Documenting her journey through film, photography and her beautiful words. Connecting with women all over the world who have also surfed through cancer, and inspiring others to do the same.

Because evidence increasingly shows that not only is it great for you medically to continue with activity, it’s clear a phenomenal way to keep some sense of agency and of self.

Bravo to these women. Make sure you listen out for this one next wednesday - subscribe to the podcast or the newsletter (or both - linked in the profile for @boardwomen) - so you don’t miss it. And get your tissues ready, because I defy anyone not be moved by Danielle’s story.

Feeling blown away by the strength of women this week x

Great post. I should add that on top of all this, Danielle is an incredible wife/mother/daughter/sister/friend. The list of people she inspires is long!

This one floored me. Such strength, but also a willingness to be fully open and vulnerable. Definitely worth listening in.
