📌 Save this tip for your job search

1️⃣ “Work hard, play hard” 👉🏼long hours, with a “fun” culture used to make up for it.

2️⃣ “Other duties as assigned” 👉🏼role has no real boundaries, so your workload will grow without your paycheck growing.

3️⃣ “Entry-level role” 👉🏼wants a senior skillset at a junior salary.

Some job descriptions sound exciting until you read between the lines.

I’m a recruiter who reads hundreds of them, and these 3 phrases are worth a second look. 👀

Those phrases are useful prompts to ask for specifics: “What did a typical week look like for the last person in this role?” An actual example of hours, tasks and support tells a first-time applicant much more than the label alone.

That “work hard, play hard” mentality sounds nice but in my experience it’s been: work hard and then we reward you with harder work!
