Here’s what you should do:

1️⃣ Reply within 24 hours (silence = forgettable)
2️⃣ Thank the interviewer(s) for their time, not just the update
3️⃣ Reference a specific thing you enjoyed about the team or the conversation
4️⃣ Say you’d like to be considered for future roles
5️⃣ Ask to stay connected on @linkedin

📌 Save this response for the next time you get that email:

“Hi [Name], thanks for letting me know, and for the time you and the team put into the process. I really enjoyed learning about [specific thing], and while I’m disappointed, I understand. I’d like to stay connected and be considered for future roles that align with my background. Wishing you and the team all the best!”

As a recruiter, I remember candidates who respond back professionally. When a similar role opens up, the candidates that respond are who I think of first.

Most candidates don’t realize a “no” today isn’t always a “no” forever.

I’ve seen candidates get rejected for one role and hired for another months later, all because of how they handled the “no.”

📌 Save these questions for your next interview

1️⃣ “What’s the biggest challenge someone in this role would be walking into right now?”

2️⃣ “What would make you most excited about a candidate?” (This gives you insight into future interview rounds)

3️⃣ “What does success look like in this role and how is it measured?”

4️⃣ “What qualities do you see in your top performers?”

💡RECRUITER TIP: the strongest candidates ask great questions too. Show enthusiasm and confidence.

Follow these steps:👇🏼

1️⃣ Go to the “Jobs” tab on @linkedin and search the job title you want

2️⃣ Set “Date posted” to “Past 24 hours”

3️⃣ Turn on “Under 10 applicants”

💡RECRUITER TIP: Tap “Set alert” so newly posted jobs are shared directly to you.

Now you’re applying early, to roles that fewer people have applied to, instead of competing with hundreds.

I’m a recruiter, and early applicants are often the ones who get seen first.

📌 Save this for your job search

Here’s what you should say:

✅ Adaptive Leader
“I adapt to the person. With newer team members I’m hands-on and walk them through the work. With senior folks I step back and give them autonomy. That approach cut my team’s onboarding time from 90 days to 60.”

✅ Clear Communicator
“I lead through clear communication and honest feedback. When a project was slipping, I called the team together, reset priorities, and gave direct feedback early. We hit the deadline and the client renewed.”

✅ Ownership Leader
“I lead by setting clear goals, then giving people ownership. On my last team I gave each person their own project and held weekly 1:1s to unblock them. We shipped two weeks early, and two people on that team got promoted.”

Words like “servant leader” or “lead by example” sound great but say nothing on their own.

💡Follow this formula: How you lead + a real example + the result.

👇🏼Here’s what you should do…

Send this email to your recruiter/HR:

“Hi [recruiter], I’m excited for the interview next week! As I prepare, may you please share any interview prep? It would be helpful to know: What is the interview format? Who am I meeting with? What interview topics will they focus on? Thank you! [your name]”

Most recruiters will tell you the interview structure, who your interviewers are, and what the interview topic will focus on.

Some even have prep guides they only share if you ask.

👥 Send this to a friend who has an interview coming up!

What to say👇🏼

✅ COLLABORATION:
“Curious, organized, collaborative.
I ask the questions others skip, keep every project on track, and align the team early so the project keeps moving.”

✅ PROBLEM SOLVING:
“Resourceful, driven, steady.
Give me an ambiguous problem with no guidance and I’ll build a plan, align the team, and deliver on time.”

✅ HANDLING CHANGE:
“Adaptable, analytical, accountable.
When priorities change, I look at the data, adjust the plan as needed, and own the result either way!”

As a recruiter, the words get my attention.

The sentence is what I remember when I’m writing up my interview notes.

📌 Save this tip for your job search

1️⃣ “Work hard, play hard” 👉🏼long hours, with a “fun” culture used to make up for it.

2️⃣ “Other duties as assigned” 👉🏼role has no real boundaries, so your workload will grow without your paycheck growing.

3️⃣ “Entry-level role” 👉🏼wants a senior skillset at a junior salary.

Some job descriptions sound exciting until you read between the lines.

I’m a recruiter who reads hundreds of them, and these 3 phrases are worth a second look. 👀

📌Save this resume tip for your job search

As a recruiter, here are 3 things I’d delete from your resume immediately:

1️⃣ Objective statement: we know you want the job. This talks about what you want, NOT what you bring.

2️⃣”References available upon request”: If we need them, we’ll ask.

3️⃣ Soft skill buzzwords: Don’t tell us you’re a hard worker. Let your results speak for themselves.

Recruiters spend seconds scanning a resume, so every line has to earn its spot.

Use that space for your results and experience instead.

As a recruiter, here are three things I’d love candidates to stop feeling guilty about:

1️⃣ Applying to a job even if you don’t check every box. Most job descriptions don’t break down minimum verses preferred requirements.

2️⃣ Asking for the salary range before the interview. It’s smart to do this, not rude. It can save you time from interviewing for roles well below your salary expectations.

3️⃣ Having a gap on your resume. You’re human. Life happens, layoffs happen, don’t sweat it. A clear, confident explanation goes a long way.

📌 Save this for the next time you second-guess your job search

I’m a recruiter who talks to candidates every day, and none of these are red flags. Let’s normalize them.

Here are two ways to respond (depending on your situation):

1️⃣Realigning your career:

✅ “I stepped away intentionally to reassess my career. During that time, I expanded my X skillset by completing online courses and grew my network in the industry. I’m now clear on what I’m looking for and ready to bring that to my next role.”

2️⃣Personal reason:

✅ “Due to a family matter, I made an intentional choice to step back and be fully present for my family. Now that things are settled, I’m ready to find my next opportunity.”
