For all the dum dums rushing to defend Shane in the comments telling me about all the times he’s countered Rogan or Schultz: I know, and I don’t care. I doubt my opinion means all that much to you but he’s honestly fine as a comic (specials have been good, I don’t listen to MSSP, Tires is ok) and I don’t think you’re a bad person just because you went to Skankfest. This video is less about Shane and more about how “cancel culture” has emerged from “consumer culture.” That said, doing “have you noticed women at the gym dress like whores now?” is a such a lazy bit, but that’s what happens when you’re worth $16 million, hang out with your other multi-millionaire friends in their private gym, and can no longer live what everyone else considers a normal life.

Maybe our algorithms are different, but many of the people (myself included) I've seen take issue with Shane's monologue are taking issue with his monologue, not him. His "joke" and the fact that it made it through SNL writers and several rehearsals, is yet another example of how our society is backsliding in how it treats and values women. I don't really know all that much about Shane nor do I care, but his "joke" was parroting a lot of the stupid talking points far right incels have been saying about women for months now. If people laughed, I suppose that doesn't make them a bad person, but I do hope that it causes them to introspect a little bit about why that is funny to them.

The lady who hosted the week before (whose name escapes me) made a joke about how every year for her birthday she “wears a tight ass latex dress and stands on a streetcorner” which I feel is deeply insulting to actual sex workers, but Gillis and the word “whores” are an easier, least common denominator. Not defending any of this, but I think the problem goes deeper than the white dude at the forefront.
