As part of our City as Our Campus program, Upper School students in Dr. Gough’s Power & Protest class recently visited the @historycenter for an Archive Encounter.

The History Center’s staff gave students insight into how archives are constructed before sharing a collection of 19th-century records related to slavery and abolition in Western Pennsylvania.

Through primary sources, including abolitionist newspapers and documents from the Western Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society, students explored how power has been exercised, challenged, and ultimately documented throughout history. Thanks for having us, Heinz History Center!
