You need to consider the economics of all this to understand it. The reason the PGA Tour has all this power and can dictate terms to other tours and the players is because they have higher purses. They aren’t trying “force” everyone to the PGA Tour or to the U.S. The players WANT to come here because they can make more money if they’re successful on the PGA Tour than they can on any other tour. And the reason for the higher purses is that the U.S. television market is many multiples more lucrative than any other television market in the world. No one spends like the U.S. consumer, and therefore no one spends on advertising like U.S. television advertisers. Television advertising and sponsorship dollars drive purses, and the PGA Tour owns the U.S. television market.
