🎭 FROM NEW YORK TO BUCHAREST: “MIGRATION DIARY” AT THE 36TH NATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL!

Following its world premiere at New York’s legendary La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in June 2026, “Migration Diary. New York City Edition,” written and directed by acclaimed Romanian director Carmen Lidia Vidu, makes its Romanian premiere at the 36th National Theatre Festival (FNT36)!

📅 October 19 | 9 PM & October 20 | 6 PM
📍 Pictura Hall, National Theatre of Bucharest

🌍 Four women. Four personal journeys. Stories that cross borders.

Featuring Sam Xu, Lia Fietz, Ana-Maria Bandean, and Ellen Ko, this powerful multimedia documentary performance explores migration, identity, memory, and the search for belonging through deeply personal stories connecting different cultures with New York City.

🎤 Both performances will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and Carmen Lidia Vidu, moderated by Dorian Branea.

✨ The Romanian premiere also welcomes Sarah Rae Murphy and Violeta Picayo, Co-Producing Directors of La MaMa, to Bucharest for a series of professional encounters aimed at strengthening Romanian–American artistic collaboration.

Originally presented in New York by La MaMa, the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, and the National Theatre of Bucharest, the production continues its transatlantic journey at FNT36.

I saw Migration Diary when it was presented in New York, and truly enjoyed it. I'm sure audiences in Bucharest will feel the same. However, I am wondering why the NYC edition's originating Producer's name was left out of this notice? Ana-Maria Bandean assembled the cast, brought in the director, and pitched the show to both La Mama and Romanian Cultural institute, as well as raised funds to make the production happen. Participants of the Q&A I saw at La Mama clearly outlined Ms. Bandean's instrumental role in making this production a reality. A originating producer's time, effort, money and sweat equity should always be acknowledged in any touring version of a show.
