🐢 One turtle. One ocean. A fight for survival that never stops. 🌊
Along Mexico’s Pacific coast, a local conservation initiative is working to protect sea turtles at one of the most vulnerable stages of their lives: before their hatchlings ever reach the ocean.

@playaviva Every year, sea turtles return to the shore to lay their eggs. But their nests face serious threats from poaching and predators.
So the local team takes action. 🌱
🙋♀️ Volunteers patrol the beach at night, looking for nesting turtles and vulnerable nests.
🥚 They carefully collect the eggs and relocate them to a protected hatchery, where they can incubate more safely, away from poachers and predators.
🐢 When the hatchlings emerge, the team helps release them onto the beach, giving them the chance to make their first journey into the Pacific.
Since 2010, La Tortuga Viva has helped release more than 450,000 baby sea turtles. Each release represents another chance for these remarkable animals to survive.
💚 Playa Viva supports the sanctuary and its local conservation work. Guests can also join night patrols and, when conditions allow, witness hatchling releases during their stay.
Sea turtles have been navigating the oceans for millions of years. Today, their survival depends increasingly on the choices we make to protect their nesting grounds, reduce human threats and support the communities doing this work every day.
Protecting sea turtles means protecting more than a species. It means protecting the future of our oceans. 🌎
