The Dutch Senate voted on October 13 to abolish court-ordered penalty payments for delayed IND residence decisions.

Although widely reported as an asylum measure, the asylum ministry confirmed to Dutch News that regular residence applications including those from international workers, students and family members are also covered.

Once the change takes effect, applicants can still ask a court to set a deadline for the IND, but judges will no longer attach these financial penalties.

The IND says it has paid more than €112 million in penalties in 2026 and argues that the proceedings increase its workload without speeding up decisions.

Minister Bart van den Brink aims to implement the measure within a week of approval. Parliamentary approval and entry into force are separate steps.

I can't believe how much tax payer money is transferred to others who aren't even Citizens. Hard working Dutch don't even earn this kind of money working full time... Glad to see they are fixing some things but it seems every year it's just more taxes and more taxes

So would this reduce our tax? I know of this lady who got 38,000 euros and she had to send every bit to Africa and at the end this money made she n her husband divorce. This is not fair at all I must say!
