1 million small decisions later ❤️

We’re Stephanie & Žarko, and we built Lost River Estates on 700 acres of mountainous forest. Ironically The Vale came first (the big one!) which sleeps 8, has epic views, and a professional level movie theater. Next came The Nook. A secluded, romantic getaway with full spa amenities ~ a sauna, stream rain shower, soaking tub, heated floors, and an outdoor shower, hot tub & cold plunge. You can find us in Hardy County, WV only 2 hours from Washington DC.

The Nook or The Vale - which would you choose?

The sick mentality of some men is honestly beyond disturbing.

Before anyone asks, these messages are from men in India. This is the side of social media you don’t always get to see. The disgusting, sexually explicit messages women receive from men who think it’s acceptable to speak to us this way, completely unprovoked. This is what I repeatedly experience on my social media, it’s absolutely disgusting.

Unsolicited sexual messages, degrading comments, men who think they can speak to women however they please. The entitlement is unreal.

And no, this isn’t a one-off. It happens far too often, which is exactly why I speak up about it.

I’m proud to have been born and raised in the UK, where I’ve had the opportunity to grow up challenging attitudes and expectations that I don’t agree with. Honestly, my heart goes out to women in India who have to navigate environments where misogyny and sexual harassment can be so deeply normalised. No woman should have to put up with this behaviour.

Being a man doesn’t give you the right to sexualise, degrade, or disrespect a woman. And hiding behind a screen doesn’t make you any less disgusting.

I’m sharing this because I’m tired of staying quiet about something I experience on a daily basis.

If this makes you uncomfortable, perhaps ask yourself why the behaviour is being called out rather than questioning why it happens in the first place.

16.10.2008 - 18 years ago My #AliveDay 🥂

18 years ago today, at 4pm, my life changed forever when I was hit by a speeding drunk driver.

Which means that today, at 36, my heart has officially been beating for long enough to celebrate with champagne. 🥂

8 years ago I wrote the words in the second photo, and they ring just as true today.

Since then, there have been so many more adventures. Met some of the most amazing people. Fallen in love, made so many amazing memories at work and in my personal world, countless moments in what turns out to be the great love of my life: Formula 1 …and been able to work for the sport in ways I never imagined, winning the Indy 500, losing 24hr endurance racing, even getting to work on an F1 movie. Places I never imagined I’d go, things I never dreamed I’d do, and even more extraordinary people I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way.

Every 16th October, I try to take a moment to stop and reflect, and more than anything be thankful and celebrate it.

Because amongst all the noise of the world, the scary things, the sad things, the heartbreaks, the disappointments, and even the completely mundane, boring days, it’s so easy to forget the absolute magic of just being alive.

Of getting to experience all of it.

The wonderful bits and the rubbish bits. The big adventures and the quiet Tuesdays. The people we love, the people we lose, the dreams that come true and the ones that don’t.

All of it is life. And all of it is a bonus.

I know how lucky I am to have been given a second chance. So many people never get one.

And without sounding too much like the ending of Saving Private Ryan, I really hope I’ve earned it.

But more than anything, this is a reminder to myself to never take any of it for granted.

Here’s to 18 years of bonus time, and hopefully many more. ❤️🥂
