1. Your efficiency becomes more work.

Finish something early? Here’s another responsibility.

2. Your expertise becomes everyone’s resource.

You’re expected to support colleagues without the time to do it.

3. Your reliability becomes an expectation.

The exceptional effort you once volunteered is now your baseline.

4. Your boundaries become disappointing.

Saying no suddenly feels like letting people down.

5. Your growth becomes inconvenient.

You’re needed so badly in your current role that moving forward becomes difficult.

Not every school operates this way.

But when it happens, being indispensable can become a trap.

Which one have you experienced?

This actually happens in most jobs. Once you have attained all you can in a job role, it's time to move on to a higher level or move to a new place of work at a higher grade.

This could not be more true, timely or relevant. How does admin continue to turn a blind eye to the useless and overpaid staff members? Frustrating!

Almost forgot, to prevent being hit they issued the teachers in the spec ed class Kevlar vests. “Don’t say no to them. That’s a trigger word.”

"Accidentally" the public schools system runs on unpaid exploited labor from teacher. Its a mainstay, a feature, not a bug

Absolutely! Those who are diligent, who push themselves to grow, who say yes, who lend a hand/offer help, etc are the ones everyone comes to when they need something done/started/continued. They are the ones expected to shoulder more. Be mediocre, not "available ", silent when help is meeded, then you have no expectations of you/your time. Seems unfair to continue to place expectations on the sane people who are already bending over backwsrds. "Lazy people never change the world", but those giving their all are getting tired.

How about when they give you the really rough class and because “ we needed a really strong teacher.”

Yep. I walked past some admin and spoke and they acted like I wasn’t even there.

The phrase used on me was, "You have a way with these kids. See it as a reward and an honor we selected you."

I can sum it up shorter...Competent, hard working, dependable teachers are taken advantage of.
