Bollywood actor Imran Khan, best known for Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, has been directed by Mumbai Police to leave India by October 28, 2026, following his participation in a political protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to reports, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of Mumbai Police issued a Leave India Notice to the actor, citing alleged violations of immigration regulations. Police said action was initiated because Khan participated in the demonstration despite not being an Indian citizen.

The controversy began on October 10, when Khan joined a protest organised in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. Demonstrators were demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities.

Khan was detained alongside his partner, actress Lekha Washington, and cousin Zayne Marie Khan before being released. He later shared a photograph from inside a police van, writing, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.” Police maintained that the demonstration lacked the required permission.

The actor’s citizenship status subsequently came under scrutiny after former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya approached Mumbai Police, alleging that Khan was an American citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Somaiya demanded action, arguing that participating in a political agitation violated the conditions governing his stay in India.

Under Article 19 of the Indian Constitution, the fundamental right to assemble peacefully without arms is specifically guaranteed to Indian citizens, not foreign nationals. However, whether Khan’s participation violated immigration or OCI conditions, and whether it legally justifies requiring him to leave India, are separate questions.

Khan had earlier maintained that he attended the protest as a Mumbai resident, not as a representative of any political organisation.

As of the latest reports, Khan has been given until October 28 to leave India, with no confirmed public response from the actor to the notice.

Just days before his passing, RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, was seen spending time with his former co-star Luis Moncada, who played Marco Salamanca.

In a heartbreaking coincidence, the two had recently reunited for a hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque, sharing what would become one of Mitte’s final public moments.

RJ tragically passed away on October 12, 2026, aged just 34.

A reminder to check on the people you love. Sometimes a simple “You doing okay?” can mean more than you realise. ❤️

Rest in peace, RJ Mitte. 🕊️
