I found this DKNY Jeans ad in one of my old magazines and immediately realized every girl looked like a very specific person from school. 😂

These outfits look so odd today! Haha!

The funniest part is that none of this looked like a costume in 2002. This was just… fashion. The low-rise pants. The unnecessary belts. The tiny layers. The chandelier earrings. The aggressively specific personality each outfit seemed to communicate.

And somehow, looking at these now, I can tell you exactly who each girl was supposed to be. 😂

My mother did something so special for me on my birthday this year. Over the years because of the favor of God and because of all of you supporting my ministry the way you have, I had 5 consecutive Billboard #1 albums. I’ve also had two Billboard #1 radio songs. I Give Myself Away was certified gold (almost platinum now). I also had a Grammy nomination and several other awards and nominations over the years. I was one of Billboard’s top 10 artists of the decade. Yet over the years not only have I not said anything about it, but never had any of the plaques made to commemorate these milestones. My awards have never been displayed because they were never my pursuit. I discovered early that it wasn’t healthy for my heart. This is not an indictment on others, just speaking for myself. I never wanted things to become the object of my pursuit. Just Christ alone.

Over the years of traveling around the world (over 50 countries), my kids were younger then and never fully knew how much favor the Lord had shown me. I began to express the desire for them to be able to have something tangible to see some of what the Lord had done through their daddy. So on my birthday as a surprise to me, my mother presented me with just some of the things I never had made. Each of my 5 kids holding a number 1 plaque. Each project made after one of them was born. The pictures don’t even show all of the plaques. God has been really good to me and you guys have too! But the truth still remains that no matter what “success” comes and goes, “Only You can satisfy my heart Jesus!”
