Netflix is making some major cuts to its workforce.
The streaming giant announced Wednesday (Oct. 14) that it’s laying off approximately 1,000 employees, accounting for roughly 6% of its workforce. According to CNBC, the cuts will primarily affect workers in the product, technology, legal, and human resources departments. In a memo to employees,
#Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters explained that the company must be strategic about its resources, despite remaining financially strong. “Our business is strong and growing, and we remain on track to deliver our full year forecast,” the executives wrote, adding that Netflix plans to continue investing in areas that support growth and innovation.
The layoffs come just weeks after Sarandos admitted Netflix was “not growing as fast as I want.” While the company remains a streaming powerhouse, viewership has reportedly stalled. Netflix is also facing increased competition from
#YouTube and the planned combination of Paramount+ and
#HBOMax. Netflix is scheduled to report its latest quarterly earnings on Oct. 20.
