3 years ago, Eric Lewis was acquitted on a murder charge in the 2019 death of Christopher Williams over what Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner recently called a flawed and corrupt police investigation. Now, Lewis is the man accused of fatally shooting Philadelphia police officer Shane Seiber on Oct. 10, 2026.

Williams' family told CBS News Philadelphia investigative reporter Liz Crawford that they were never notified that the 2023 trial had been compromised and only discovered the new information through Krasner's video about Lewis and his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of officer Seiber.

Crawford has reached out to the police department and others involved in the 2019 case and Lewis' acquittal in 2023. The department has not yet provided the full context. In the meantime, Williams' grieving family is left demanding answers.

It’s sickening that Krasner would blame the police in the acquittal and label them as corrupt now that the victim is a police officer.

Perhaps the police should follow the law and this wouldnt be a problem. Allowing corrupt cops to stay on the streets harms a lot of people for many reasons ... this is one of them.

Do you realize the DAO approves homicide warrants and charges? Pre-Krasner there were experienced chiefs of the homicide unit who would sit down with the assigned detective and review the file and the evidence and give instructions on what the detective needed to do before charges would be approved. Did that happen here? This is why experience matters.

Its not alleged the cops broke the law and now that same man killed one of their own. Hopefully now they can see why police reform is needed and they need to be held accountable

Yeah that word accountability keeps escaping their department but now will they keep the hypocrisy going or stop it all together. I bet they will keep being hypocritical.
