Ashu, my friend, my brother.

It breaks my heart that you’re spending your birthday in detention. But today, I just want to tell you how much you inspire me every single day.

I wish I had even half the calmness and composure you carry, even in the most difficult situations. Every time I watch you speak in front of people, I find myself learning something from you. And I don’t think I’ve ever told you how much I admire that about you.

I’ll never forget October 10, when we were detained and produced before the court. You simply looked at me and said, “We will do whatever you decide.” You were ready to go to jail without a second thought. Not because you weren’t afraid, but because you trusted the people standing beside you. And I don’t think you realise how much those words meant to me, or how much responsibility I felt in that moment.

It’s rare in life to come across people you can trust with your life. And you, my brother, are one of those rare people for me.

I don’t know what I did to deserve people like you in my life, but I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have you by my side in this little cockroach movement of ours. None of this would have been possible without you. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

I just wish you weren’t spending your birthday behind those walls. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from you, it’s that they can detain a person, but they can never detain the courage and conviction that person carries.

Happy birthday, my brother. I’m so proud of you, and even more grateful that I get to call you my brother. ❤️

I swear they said this completely on their own with no prompting at all!! Catch my stint as a guest shark on @sharktankabc TONIGHT at 10/9c 🦈
