Is it normal to not be as firm if I use that little box of flavored jell-o brand rather than the beef gelatin powder? I used only 1/2 a cup of water for the whole packet and still came out too wonky 😢

In December of 2015, @rpwells bought me a plane ticket to NYC. I remember the moment vividly, because we couldn’t afford it. We were living in my angel Mother-in-law’s basement— each working tirelessly toward our individual and shared dreams. Taking risks, saving, and sacrificing to build the life we knew we wanted. Soaking up the chaos with our almost two year old baby. I had been asked to go to New York for to attend an event and meet a new friend. I so desperately wanted to go, but I had said no— until Ry surprised me with the ticket. He said he felt like I couldn’t afford NOT to go. I cried the first time I saw this city— the sheer magnitude of it was like nothing I had ever seen. That trip became so important and memorable for me. It was the first time I ever traveled alone. It was the first time I had ventured into the world as a mother, without my baby. It was the first time I met new friends in adulthood— and the first time in my life I didn’t know or care what their religion was, nor them mine. It was the first time a woman I didn’t know recognized me from online, told me of a struggle she was facing, and thanked me for sharing mine. (We embraced, and somehow I knew, I DID know her.) It was the first time I felt like maybe the silly little “fitstagram” account I had created, was meant to be something more. Almost 11 years later, I’ve been back to New York many times. With many of those trips being just as impactful as the first, and every single time? I’m still in awe of this city I’m still learning new things about ME Because of how many poignant moments she’s held for me, New York is a beautiful mirror. Walking these streets, I feel I get to re-meet every previous version of me that walked them before. Simultaneously mourning and celebrating so many chapters to either integrate, or let go. Wherever you are in the world today, and whatever delicate life phase, I encourage you to sit with yourself and do the same. I’m not gonna lie, every time I have to paint myself a weird color for cosplay, I feel like I might as well hold a big rainbow lollipop and wear a little propeller hat.
