Today you turn 9. 🥹❤️ Gosh, it’s not easy holding back the tears as I write this. I just want you to know how incredibly proud I am to be your mom. How much I adore you, and how deeply I love you. ❤️

Never let anyone dim your light, because you are the coolest, funniest, most loving and bravest girl I know. You have SO much spunk in you, the most amazing personality, and you’re so much fun to be around. 😍And honestly, nobody ever knows what’s going to come out of your mouth next. 🤭🤣 You definitely keep us on our toes with all the crazy things you come up with and life would never be as fun without you!

I’ve been trying to put my feelings into words, but when my heart is too heavy, I become silent 💔 So I’ll just leave these pictures here. 🤍 My children. My whole life. The ones who need me to keep showing up, even when a part of me is still trying to understand how to live with the loss of one of my children. Just... How? There is so much love in these pictures. And there is also so much that you can’t see. The exhaustion of being a mother while grieving. The guilt. The longing. The moments when I’m surrounded by the people I love most, yet my heart still aches for the one who is missing. I’m learning that grief and motherhood don’t take turns. They exist together. I can laugh with these children and miss Vanessa at the very same time. I can be grateful for what I have and still wish with everything in me that she was here too. Some days I find the words. So many people questioned the choice of having a baby after losing Vanessa.💜 Some said I was replacing her. Some wondered how my fragile, broken body could possibly handle another pregnancy. But the truth is… Denice probably saved my life. After losing Vanessa, I stopped eating. I stopped sleeping. I did what I had to do for my other children, because they needed me and i made sure they had everything they needed. But when it came to me? I didn’t really care anymore. Then I found out I was pregnant. And suddenly, I saw hope. I saw a little bit of light in the darkest place I had ever been. I knew I had to eat. I knew I had to sleep. I knew I had to take care of my body. Not because my grief was gone. Not because I was moving on. And certainly not because I was replacing Vanessa. I was doing it for my unborn baby. And somewhere along the way, taking care of her meant I started taking care of myself again, too. I know so many grieving parents who have welcomed a baby after an unimaginable loss. And I know this for certain: Not one of those babies is a replacement. Because you can never replace a child you have lost. There is no replacing Vanessa. There never will be. Denice has her own place in our family. Vanessa has hers. Forever & Always💜 One does not erase the other. One does not make the loss hurt less 💔 And sometimes I find myself wishing more than anything that they could have met. I wish Vanessa could have held her. I wish she could have seen her little sister. I wish Denice could have known the sister who would have loved her so fiercely. That is one of the hardest parts of all. Two daughters I love with my whole heart, yet they will never get to know each other in this life. But Denice brought light when I needed it most. School start hits me differently this year. 🥹 After 6 years of spending every day, every minute together with me, it’s time for Melanie & Benjamin to walk through the school gates and begin their own journeys. And maybe that’s exactly why my heart feels so heavy. Since Vanessa passed, time has felt different to me. I notice it. I feel it. I know how quickly everything can change, and maybe that’s why watching my babies grow up feels a little harder now. Denice is doing SO great after leaving her pacifiers at Bessa’s place. 💜🥹 The plan was originally to "leave" the paccies with the horses nearby, but they weren’t out. So we stopped at Bessa’s place before heading to the next place. Thats when Denice put the pacifiers down and said, “Bessa gets them.” 💜 My heart just melted. 🥹 We made a big fuss about it and told her what a beautiful plan it was — that Bessa could give them to the angel babies in heaven. 🥹✨ The first night was a little harder. She cried for her paccies for a bit, and I explained to her again where they were and she was ok with it. The next day, we bought her two little dolls as a little “you did it!” gift and told her how incredibly proud we were of her. 🥰 And then… just like that. 😍 She hasn’t asked for them. I honestly thought giving up the pacifier would be MUCH harder, but she has surprised us all. My brave, sweet girl. 🥹💜 We are SO proud of you, Deni!
